The Vision

Through a combination of outdoor adventure activities and caring leadership, disadvantaged children will be given a week fully paid for, to experience all that camp has to offer.

Koinonia is not just seeking to provide a child minding service during the school holidays, but to provide meaningful camp experiences that are not only accessible to those with money, but also to those who are disadvantaged in someway. Koinonia provides sponsored placements on camp for those who would otherwise miss out on such an opportunity.

We want children who have had a rough start to life for whatever reason, to know that despite all of that, there is still hope for their future. They can learn to cope with their situations and make decisions to break the cycle of abuse and look forward to a brighter future. Koinonia’s kids camp program is all about equipping children and young people with the skills to do that by showing them a better way—by giving them a week away from the abuse in a supportive and caring environment.

We believe that by promoting the feeling of self worth in those who believe they have little or none, we can encourage them to rise to their full potential and achieve things they never thought they were capable of!

From our experience in Sydney, we know that these types of camps have been instrumental in changing the lives of countless children and young people; they have developed a healthy self-esteem and renewed hope for their future. This program is not just about fixing problems, but it is also about prevention—if children from these backgrounds know that they are genuinely cared for, it gives them purpose and hope and often deters them from becoming involved in juvenile crime. Camp also provides an opportunity to give parents and carers a week of respite without their children.
