Workshops

This workshop is provided by Mereki, a child of the Stolen Generation, who offers primary students an Indigenous cultural learning experience, through performance, hands on arts and crafts, story telling and singing and dance. Original music, singing and dancing, traditional stories told with puppets and props and a wide variety of culturally relevant art activities all help to make Mereki's program memorable and unique. Children gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal Culture and people.

The National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) can provide educational discovery tours of national parks and coastal eco-systems right here in Evans Head. With Bundjalung National Park and Chinamen’s beach right on our doorstep, these venues provide the ideal location for programs that are designed to increase students understanding of ecological concepts, enhance sensory awareness, and foster an appreciation for the natural and cultural environment. The programs are not only educational, but participatory and definitely fun-filled!

WIRES is a not-for-profit organisation that specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured native animals. WIRES volunteers are available to come to Koinonia and talk about their vital role in the protection of threatened species, by caring for the sick, injured or orphaned, and educating young people about our native wildlife.

The NSW Rural Fire Service Firewise programs at Koinonia are presented by RFS fire fighters and are linked to learning outcomes in the PDHPE syllabus.

This program teaches students about house-fire safety as well as bush-fire safety. Students also have the opportunity to explore the fire truck and fire fighting equipment.
